At The Deep of Night


When at the deep of the night you lost all sleep

Are you thinking of me?

Did your feeling in love have took hold of you?

Do you feel getting from bed and calling me?

Do you wish to fall asleep but you can't?

Wait before the day twilight's break

you will feel exhausted and fall asleep

At the morning sunrise

I will call you awakening you

from your broken dreams

and just tell you

'I love you too'

Abu al-Qasim al-Shabbi  The Poet of the Tunisia and Egyptian Revolution     At many of the protests in Tunisia, Egypt and elsewhere people have been chanting the verses of a Tunisian poet Abu al-Qasim al-Shabi .   Uvalde I’m struck with news and views today __ As youth and truth lie dead. Words bruise me in a mad melee __ Of mind-marauding dread. I’m stunned by words, too many heard __ To mull and comprehend— Cacophonies of what occurred __ And why we’ve reached this end. Excuses rise like ghostly smoke __ And choke my waning trust.
