Fate

Time traces to and fro, 
Along an invisible path we go, 
Between the lines we travel, 
As our destinies we seek to unravel, 
Guided by the shape of space, 
Bringing the truth face to face, 
A pilgrimage to find true self, 
A fortune bestowed with unlimited wealth, 
I have faith that in the end we will meet, 
It is the reason my heart will endure to beat, 
A graceful dance in time, 
As we entangle each other in rhyme, 
Rivers of fate flow from the heart, 
A journey which the stars chart, 
They course through the canyons of our soul, 
But only when joined together are we whole, 
Mixing in a golden ocean of love, 
Reflecting glorious heavens above, 
In seas forever yearning, 
The tide will keep returning.

Abu al-Qasim al-Shabbi  The Poet of the Tunisia and Egyptian Revolution     At many of the protests in Tunisia, Egypt and elsewhere people have been chanting the verses of a Tunisian poet Abu al-Qasim al-Shabi .   Uvalde I’m struck with news and views today __ As youth and truth lie dead. Words bruise me in a mad melee __ Of mind-marauding dread. I’m stunned by words, too many heard __ To mull and comprehend— Cacophonies of what occurred __ And why we’ve reached this end. Excuses rise like ghostly smoke __ And choke my waning trust. I glimpse a dagger beneath a cloak __ As details are discussed. The buzz and din and gab and spin __ Will bang on all year long, And rectitude will never win __ Unless we hear its song.
