Poem Lulu LaRose Trembly Allpoetry by Sonia3902z

Lulu LaRose Trembly

It's Saturday night
and the town is swinging,
as dates pour into old
Shumanski's Dance Hall,
all ready to shuffle and have a ball.

The big band sound plays away,
instruments of drums, clarinets, and trombones,
shaking up the oaken floor as if a storm,
uniformed soldiers enter free at the door,
representing different armed forces and more.

Lulu LaRose Trembly enters the loud building near,
she is the one who sneaks out of her house,
she is curious of all the excitement next door,
dreaming about dancing even as a child,
now at age sixteen she is a woman of the wild.

The music changes to a fast dance as Lulu watches,
it is the Jitterbug making dancers move quickly,
crazy motions with their hands and swift feet,
turns, breakaways and brazen aerial flips,
discouraging romantic couples from kissing on lips.

Lulu's freshly-polished saddle shoes tap to the beat,
her arms moving fast as she enters the dance floor,
she is the only single dancer prancing to the Jitterbug
until a tall, dark-haired sailor decides to join her frenzy,
In between breaths he says his name is Bob McKenzie.

Bob holds her close when slow dancing to a popular tune,
Lulu follows him perfectly with each step as he bends down,
admiring her sweet-smelling and lovely wavy long hair,
he thinks of her as his sweetheart wearing Bobby sox,
a young woman on the brink of becoming a beautiful fox.

I believe that writing is the spice of life. It adds that additional flavoring to dull entrees.
I have been writing poems and short stories for approximately thirty years.  Most of my work has appeared in literary journals, small presses, weekly local newspapers, and currently on poetry websites.  During the 1990s, I was an editor and co-publisher of a quarterly literary journal called, 'Moose Bound Press' based in Anchorage, Alaska.  Subscribers were state wide as well as international.  It was an exciting time since the Internet was starting and it helped bridge writers together from all over the world.
