Oh Manhattan Poem by Sherif Monem
Manhattan, Manhattan, Manhattan
Oh, Manhattan
The Sky Scrapers, high rise buildings and blazing lights at night
The liberty statue island is looking over with a lady raising torch
Manhattan with its famous avenues and streets
The Broadway, the Madison, the fifth and Park avenues
The 34th St strolling, snacking and shopping
From Broadway shows, Symphony Hall and Rockefeller Center
to the museum of Natural History and Guggenheim exhibits of arts
From the landmark Grand Central Terminal
to the ultra modern Hudson Yards train station
from the fast world of hustle and bustle
to Central Park haven of tranquility
of green grass, shrubs and trees
to blue sparkling surface of inner lakes
Manhattan is described as an island
with great famous bridges and tunnels
from George Washington on Hudson river
to the famous Brooklyn bridge
From Lincoln tunnel to Holland tunnel to pick two
Manhattan is land of hundred tongues
of congested streets, subways and taxis
to tourists, visitors and the magnificent building of United Nations
It all started in n 1524, when the explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano
met the boats of the fishermen Lenape Natives
Manhattan changed hands from the Dutch to the English
from Dutch fur companies, to the English importing and trading slaves
A dark chapter that all gone and washed with sorrows
The Wall Street is as old as the city
The nerve center of the financial world
Manhattan is a Legend long known by the Empire State
The most prominent of New York City boroughs
Manhattan, Manhattan here we come
For the New Year Celebration
Remember, the Union Square famous dropping ball
The large crowds, fireworks, extravaganza, whistles and cheers
for the excitement of the birth of a new year
Oh do not forget the fabulous Macy`s colorful Thanksgiving Parade
