Fear by OverTheRainbow

Fear

As a child I did not know to fear
I touched the flame to learn that it burned
I loved without abandon only to have my heart broken
I was a social butterfly only to watch the flowers around me fade into winter

I was not taught fear - no, that I learned from Life
I know fear is not of God
perhaps that is why I was born fearless
and why I pray to face my fears

Fear of making mistakes that hurt those I love so much
Fear of losing those that make the sun shine brighter
Fear of disappointing those who love you
Everyone has these fears

But Life's path can be dark at times
Fear of not catching that next breath
Fear of that invisible weight on your chest
Fear of not grasping hold of the thousand thoughts spinning in your mind
Fear of the the dizziness taking hold and consuming you
Fear of Panic winning this time!
Not all have these fears

Fear that the crowd will grow too large
Fear that escape will be elusive to you
Fear that you are not safe where you are
Fear of stepping outside your own door
Fear of being trapped by time, place, people, your own inability to run!
What fear is this that takes hold!

Would it be better to go back to innocence and not know such fear?
it matters not the answer
but no, for along with fear comes wisdom and strength
And now I must lean on God, for only He can give me the courage to face these fears
For once it was said, "If you aren't afraid, then it isn't brave."
